ABOUT US

The establishment of University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed) in 1998 has further made it possible for expanding its contribution towards the development of expertise in various fields of the corporate sector.

The rapid transition of our country (and the entire world) to a knowledge-based society and the challenges from competing economies all over the world necessitate a new approach to education and training that is adaptable, flexible and attuned to the need of lifelong learning.  In this era of knowledge, education is therefore no longer the prerogative of students but it has become a lifelong process for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to upgrade their knowledge and skills beyond basic compulsory education and the current work environment. The constant re-education and gaining of new skills and competencies have thus become a benchmark of the caliber of a country’s citizenry to respond to new challenges and demands posed by a highly competitive and fast advancing global market.

UMCCed recognizes the importance of lifelong learning as a prerequisite to the knowledge-based economy. Under this new approach of learning, efforts are currently undertaken to incorporate coaching programmes into education and training so that they are less structured, more participative, personalized and dedicated to the learners’ needs and interests.

As the pioneer education body in Coaching Programmes in Malaysia , University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed) is committed in developing its brand name as the main player and training provider in Coaching in Malaysia . We foresee that Coaching is the next big thing that will help leaders and managers in Malaysia and will give all the answers to the development of organisations.

UMCCed takes the initiative to spearhead the project in coaching to provide an alternative tool for implementing human capital strategic plan in any kind of industry in Malaysia . This is in addition to conventional training and consultancy services that are normally available in the industries. As in the practice, the agenda of skill training is predetermined by trainers and expertise imposed by consultants. In coaching, focus is on helping individuals to “learn what it takes” for business owners or corporate people to improve existing capabilities, set meaningful goals, and be accountable on results.

UMCCed is registered to HRDF and SMIDEC as an approved training provider. We utilize a combination of training, teaching, counseling and mentoring, customized to the unique requirements of each business industry or organisation in Malaysia . All the coaching programmes conducted by UMCCed are eligible for HRDF claims under the Skim Bantuan Latihan (SBL), subject to prior application to HRDF by the employers/companies.
